Olympic qualification for the Paris 2024 Games in triathlon takes shape for Mauritian Laurent L’Entêté. Fourth at the African Triathlon Cup (sprint: 800 m swim – 20 km bike – 5 km run) in Troutbeck, Zimbabwe, the Mauritian has taken a firm option on one of the five places that will be awarded to the African continent.
While the first four tickets will definitely go to South Africa and Morocco, whose triathletes have the best world rankings, the last ticket up for grabs is between Mauritius, Egypt and Tunisia.
Laurent L’entêté was able to hold off Egyptian Siefeldeen Ismail and Tunisian Siefeldeen Selmi. The Mauritian finished fourth in 1h06’27”. The latter two crossed the finish line in 1h07’01” and 1h07’13” in sixth and seventh place respectively.
“I’m satisfied with my performance. It was important to get ahead of my main rivals in the race for Olympic qualification, but qualification is not yet a foregone conclusion”, said Laurent l’Entêté.
Results at the African Games in Ghana in March and the African Championships in Egypt in April will thus be decisive for Laurent L’Entêté.
