Trader Arrested For Importing Rs 15 Million Of Synthetic Drugs

Muhammad Taslim Oozeer, a 40 year old trader from Pailles was arrested by a team of police officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) at Plaisance airport, after his 63 year old mother took possession of a drug parcel from Dubai at an express courier office. The son later presented himself to the police to exonerate his mother by declaring that it was he who imported this parcel containing 1028 grams of synthetic drug in powder. The market value of this drug is Rs 15 420 000.

It was on Monday April 17 at about 12:15 pm that two customs officers and an agent of an express courier company examined a package at the PATS warehouse in Plaine-Magnien. The package had arrived the day before, on Sunday April 16, on Emirates Airlines flight EK 701 from Dubai. It consisted of a small box in which there was an aluminum pouch which in turn contained a resealable plastic with a certain amount of synthetic drug.

A controlled delivery operation was set up around 11am on Wednesday 19 April. This one resulted in the arrest of a 63 year old woman, living in Pont St Louis, Pailles who came to take the delivery. Arrested by the Adsu men, she declared to have come to take this delivery at the request of her son, Taslim Oozeer. The latter, who was called by Adsu, was not long in coming to this office of express couriers and confirmed that it is indeed him who ordered the package.

A search of his home resulted in the seizure of a tablet and a cell phone for the purpose of the investigation. Taslim Oozeer was taken into custody at the Eel River police station. His mother was allowed to return home.

The suspect was brought before the court in Mahebourg this Thursday morning, April 20th. He is facing a provisional charge of drug importation.  He was held in a police cell. The seized drugs were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Reduce for examination.
