Three individuals armed with knives and swords wearing hoods and masks broke into two bungalows occupied by a German and French tourist couple respectively in the early hours of Friday morning, May 27, on the Coastal Road in Palmar. They left with a loot of Rs 126 000. The investigators of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Eastern Division have reviewed the images of the surveillance cameras of these places in order to trace the thieves.

It is at the police station of Trou d’Eau Douce that these two cases of burglary were reported. In the first case, a 34 year old German man who lives in one of these bungalows with his wife and child reported hearing a noise coming from the living room around 2am on Friday, May 27. Immediately, he said he moved his family to the safety of a room before informing the owner. The owner had to call the police. After an inventory, the German tourist had to note that a camera of the mark Canon and 50 euros were stolen. This family, which had arrived in Mauritius on Saturday May 7, returned to Germany in the afternoon of Friday May 27.

In the second case, a 38 year old French doctor who was sleeping in his room upstairs with his wife was awakened by the presence of these three men at about 2:20 am on Friday May 27. Under the threat of a sword and a knife, the doctor was forced to open a safe which contained a pair of earrings, three gold bracelets and the sum of 100 euros.
