5th place and an African record for Noemi Alphonse in the 100m final. Moment of joy and pride for all Mauritians to see our Noemi placing fifth in the world. Congratulations to our champion Noemi Alphonse MSK who broke an African record in the 100m of her category with a time of 16s48!
After the 800m T54, Mauritian Noemi Alphonse lined up for the second time in a final, the 1500m T54, on Wednesday afternoon at 3.56 pm at the Paralympic Games. Fifth in her heat on Tuesday, she achieved the fifth best time, which is synonymous with qualification. And the icing on the cake: she improved her African record with a time of 3’29″66.
Very happy with her performance, she declared: “I am very happy, because I have been fighting for two years to break this African record again. This will be my second final and what is most amazing is that in training I was not prepared for the 1500m and I feel like my sprint sessions paid off. This distance is very difficult, but it is one of my favourite courses and I have no regrets after this race.
