Having heard of a drug transaction taking place at a gas station in Mapou on Monday evening, March 21, a team from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the North Division set up a surveillance at this location. This exercise resulted in the arrest of three residents of Grand-Gaube, each of whom had a quantity of amphetamine in their possession, a total of 300 grams for an estimated total of Rs 4,500,000. The suspects are James Hexley Alexandre, 39 years old, Louis Aldo Cedrick Bijou, 37 years old and Mike Wesley Merle, 43 years old. The last two suspects work as masons.
At around 7:30 pm on the evening of Monday, March 21, Inspector Valaydon’s men set up a surveillance of this gas station in Mapou after receiving information that a drug transaction was taking place there. This information turned out to be true because the three suspects, who arrived at this location, each had in their possession a certain amount of amphetamine in plastic and with a tape.
They are Hexley Alexandre and Aldo Bijou, residents of Camp Madras, Batie, Grand-Gaube and Wesley Merle, of Route Royale, Batie, Grand-Gaube. The latter had arrived at the meeting place on a red Haojue motorcycle.
The three men were arrested and taken to the ADSU office in Grand Bay for questioning. After spending the first night in a police cell, they were brought before the Pamplemousses court on Tuesday morning, March 22. They are facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking for the purpose of distribution. This investigation, which is under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rajendranath Jhurry, aims to trace the source of supply of this drug. Aldo Bijou has been arrested in the past for the offense of inciting racial hatred.
The three suspects were kept in police cells.
