A “controlled delivery” operation carried out by elements of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) in the coastal village of Flic en Flac on Friday December 8 led to the arrest of three Quatrebornais. They were attempting to recover a parcel containing three protein sachets, which in fact contained 1880 grams of drugs worth 28,200,000 rupees.  The parcel had arrived by express courier.

The three suspects are Andy Ambea, alias Kenny, owner of a car rental company, Vinesh Reetun, 29, and Dhaniket Rummun, 20, two car washers who live on Route Palma, Quatre Bornes. Vinesh Ruttun was also found in possession of a Baretta pistol with eight bullets.  The three men were brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port-Louis on Saturday December 9.

A cardboard box arrived at Plaisance airport on Friday December 01 on Air Mauritius flight MK 053 from London, via an express courier company. The parcel, sent from Germany, was destined for a resident of Flic en Flac. According to the parcel’s manifest, it contained two proteins and a shaken meal. The package was detained by customs until it was cleared for delivery by the Ministry of Health. Following the information received, the parcel was examined jointly on Wednesday December 6 by officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and ADSU officers stationed at the airport. A powder suspected of being a synthetic drug was discovered. The shipment was then transferred to ADSU headquarters at Casernes Centrales and placed in a safe.

On Friday December 08, a controlled delivery exercise was organized. The three men arrived in Flic en Flac and were apprehended by ADSU officers. The keys to a 4×4, a national identity card, Rs 4200 rupees, a US dollar, a bank card, two SIM cards and a cell phone were confiscated. The vehicle driven by Andy Ambea was searched. A cap was found and confiscated.

A Baretta pistol with eight bullets in the magazine was seized from Vinesh Reetun, along with his wallet containing his identity card, a copy of his driving license, two bank cards, a credit company membership card, two passport photos, a SIM card, three cell phones and Rs 6,050.

The ADSU officers found a cell phone and the ignition key of a scooter in Dhaniket Rummun’s possession.
