The ship Peros Banhos returned from Rodrigues on Thursday evening, 7 March, with a cargo of seven containers of fruit and vegetables for the Mauritian market. The pumpkins, eggplants, bananas and melons, among others, were unloaded this morning. The MV Peros Banos, an 8,200-tonne multi-purpose vessel, set off for Rodrigues on its maiden voyage on March 3 with two containers full of equipment for fishermen and women who pick sea urchins.
This ship was designed by the Chinese shipping company Huanghai Shipbuilding Co Ltd and was delivered to the Mauritius Shipping Corporation last December. It is 115.70 metres long and 20 metres wide and will be used for logistics and coastal shipping between Mauritius and Rodrigues and Mauritius and Agaléga.
