Arvin Boolell and the parliamentary group of the Labour Party faced the press on Friday morning. In first instance, the parliamentary Labour leader said that the population was expecting a decrease in the prices of fuel. Unfortunately for him, at almost the same time, the decision of the Petroleum Pricing Committee that the prices will remained unchanged was announced. He reacted later that this is a crime against the population. On the political front, Arvin Boolell said that the opposition has no room to make mistakes. For him, 2023 will be a year to devise the best strategy to bring about the departure of Pravind Jugnauth. He added that the country is on the edge of a cliff.
Arvin Boolell also spoke about the print media who is celebrating its 250 birthday. He stated that the “construction and building of the country would not have been possible without the press”. Arvin Boolell praised the work of journalists. He recalled the important role of what he calls the 4th power. He said that the press is largely responsible for the cementing of the nation and the national understanding.
