The number of marriages registered during 2022 was 9,558. It is 16.8% higher than in 2021, with 8,186 marriages. The crude marriage rate increased from 12.9 persons married per 1,000 mid-year population in 2021 to 15.1 in 2022. These are the latest figures of Statistics Mauritius.
As at the end of 2022, the population of the Republic of Mauritius stood at 1,261,196, comprising of 623,181 males and 638,015 females. This represents a decrease of 0.21% as compared to 2021.
As at 31 December 2022, Mauritius had 1,216,139 inhabitants, Rodrigues 44,783 and the other islands had 274.
In 2022, the number of live births registered was 12,096, that is 886 or 6.8% lower than in 2021.
There were 12,938 deaths registered in 2022, showing a decrease of 336 or 2.5% as compared to 13,274 in 2021.
The number of infant deaths registered during the year 2022 was 172, lower than in 2021, with 179 infant deaths.
The number of stillbirths registered during the year 2022 was 111 as compared to 131 in 2021.

The dependency ratio, that is the child population under 15 years of age and the elderly population aged 65 years and above per 1,000 population aged 15-64 years, was 413.0 in 2021 and 416.1 in 2022.
