Vimen Sabapati’s panel of lawyers appeared in court on Friday morning to argue the motion to strike the charges against her. The case has been adjourned to Friday 13 October.
According to his lawyer, Me Rama Valayden, they are awaiting a decision from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). “The DPP has been requesting certain files from the police since October 2, but they are still waiting,” says Me Rama Valayden.
She was arrested on 27 September in connection with an investigation into the seizure of a mobile phone outside Vimen Sabapati’s cell. She was brought before the courts on the same day and released on bail of Rs 30,000.
Her telephone number appears on the record of calls made from the phone.
She has been charged with conspiracy. Her lawyer, Rouben Mooroongapillay, has filed a motion to strike the charge in court.
