On 19 January 2022, the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, had a meeting with the Country Director of World Bank, Ms Idah Pswarayi-Riddihough, in the presence of the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission and senior staff of the Ministry.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss future collaboration and areas of assistance to be included in the World Bank Country Partnership Framework.
Minister Seeruttun stated that the meeting with the Country Director of World Bank was very fruitful and the discussion was mainly on the technical assistance requirements and the strategic orientation of the financial sector.
He highlighted the commitment and determination of Mauritius to sustain its ongoing AML/CFT reforms and the development in the financial services sector. In this respect, exchanges with World Bank representatives were held on the new virtual asset legislation, the country risk assessment exercise, ease of doing business and capacity building for Fintech.
At the same time, the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission, elaborated on technical assistance for the insurance sector and emphasised on future opportunities to benefit from resources for training courses and the organisation of regional workshops in Mauritius.
The Country Director of the World Bank commended the efforts and proactiveness of the Mauritian team in enhancing the financial system, and also reassured the Minister Seeruttun of the World Bank continuous support in respect of the ongoing financial development.
