The lifeless body of Chimowtee Ramun, 80 years old and resident of Melrose, was fished out of the water supply canal of Sir Emile Series Street, Saint Julien d’Hotman by elements of the Mauritian Police Intervention Group (GIPM) of the Special Mobile Force this Saturday morning, January 15. The autopsy performed the same day attributed the death to asphyxiation due to drowning.
Following a request, a team of police officers from the Camp de Masque police station, led by Sergeant Kauroo, went to the canal at high speed after the macabre discovery early this Saturday morning, January 15. The assistance of the GIPM was sought to recover the body of an elderly woman, who was later identified as Chimowtee Ramun. She lived on Sir Satcam Boolell Street, Melrose.
The body of the woman was later taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis for an autopsy during the afternoon of Saturday, January 15 by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, the head of the forensic department of the police. He attributed the death to asphyxiation due to drowning.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances under which the octogenarian drowned. Already, the police retain the hypothesis that she fell into this water supply channel in Melrose and was swept to Saint Julien d’Hotman. The victim was reported missing by her son at the police station of White Mountain.
