Established in Australia for 19 years, Sweta Baichoi did Mauritius proud on February 27. Our compatriot has indeed taken the 3rd place at the Bocuse D’Or Australia.
Head chef at the Pullman Melbourne On The Park Hotel, Sweta was among the 4 finalists of the prestigious Bocuse D’Or competition in Australia.
Used to culinary competitions, it was the first time she participated in the Bocuse D’Or. And her first try was a master stroke, as she took the 3rd place of the competition: “We had 5 hours and a half to finish cooking my dish. It was very intense and very happy with my performance.”
For Sweta, this award shows that women also have their place in gastronomic kitchens: “Gastronomic cooking is certainly dominated by men. My consecration is the proof that women also have access to it. I hope that this victory will make other women who evolve in this field proud.
Living far from home, Sweta has never forgotten her origins. The dish she presented at the Bocuse D’Or is proof of this: “This competition was also a great opportunity for me to promote Mauritian cuisine in Australia through its flavors and spices.
