Banned constable Afzal Hematally has been actively sought by police officers at Camp Diable police station since Sunday evening, October 8. He is accused of vagrancy in a statement made by a police sergeant. On the same day, a police sergeant assigned to the Scene Of Crime Office (Soco) filed a complaint against the same officer for assault.
It was 8.35pm on the evening of Sunday October 8th. Sergeant Nobin Chunderghose was on patrol with her team at SSR Road, Ilot, Camp Diable when she saw the suspect fighting with a police sergeant assigned to the Forensics Department who lives in this village.
Afzal Hematally was cursing loudly. He was approached by the police sergeant who called him to order and asked him to calm down. To no avail, he was then informed that he had committed the offence of vagrancy. That same evening, the Soco sergeant lodged a complaint to explain that at around 8.30 p.m., Constable Afzal Hematally had struck him on the head with a “tonfa baton”.
The Soco sergeant went to Souillac hospital for treatment.
