He used the name and address of his deceased father to deliver drug packages from England. For this third attempt, Jean Alexandre François, a 29 year old electrician living in Cité Mamzelle, Sainte-Croix, was caught in the net of the men of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and those of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the airport on Saturday, November 12. Synthetic drugs worth Rs 1.5 million were seized from the parcel while a sum of Rs 51,000 suspected to be from the sale of these drugs was found at his home. The suspect also led the ADSU men to the house of a man, who is believed to be his accomplice. This exercise allowed to seize Rs 621 000.
The parcel arrived in Mauritius at about 1:55 pm on Air Mauritius MK 053 from London on behalf of an express courier company. It was intended for a resident of Mamode Ellam Hossen Street in St. Croix. However, it turns out that the recipient, who lived there, died. This package, which was checked by the men of CANS, ADSU and agents of this express courier company, turned out to contain 2 blister packs of 6 tablets “Rennie Spearmint” each, 1 plastic pouch, 2 tubes of Ibuprofen gel and a plastic container with the inscription “Zero AQS Emolient Cream”, in which there was a plastic containing a powder.
Following this discovery, a raid was conducted at the home of Jean Alexandre François after a controlled delivery operation was set up on Tuesday, November 15. The suspect took delivery of his package, and admitted to the police that he was waiting for the package from a friend abroad. These policemen seized in his possession the sum of Rs 51 000 suspected to come from the sale of drugs. His three cell phones were also seized. Alexandre François confessed to these police officers that it is the third time that packages are sent by this Mauritian friend. The suspect then took the ADSU men to a place where he had hidden a sum of Rs 621 000.
The suspect was placed in a cell at the detention center of Moka. On Wednesday, November 16, he was presented before the court of Port-Louis, under a provisional charge of having imported drugs. He is being held in a police cell.
