Five burglaries have occurred at Holy Cross Parish since late 2021. The most recent one was committed on the afternoon of Thursday, January 13. The suspected perpetrator of these thefts, Warren Mullet, is a local resident. He broke into the donation boxes to take the contents. On Saturday, January 8, the parish priest, Father Lélio Prudence, and the person in charge of the Père Laval center, Father André Sunnassee, went to the Abercrombie, Sainte Croix police station to file a complaint concerning the theft of Rs 1000 from a donation box and 212 red candlesticks worth Rs 6 000 from the Père Laval vault. During the morning of Thursday, January 13, a raid was made at the home of this suspect. The suspect threatened the police with a sword that was pulled out from under his pillow and injured one of the police officers before punching another officer in the eye. Warren Mullet, who managed to flee, is actively sought.
While Warren Mullet was wanted by police, he committed another burglary at the church the same day. He was seen after opening a donation box inside this church around 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 13.
It was around 10 a.m. this Thursday, January 13, that a team of police officers from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) went to the area known as Jumelle at Allée Père Laval, Sainte-Croix for a raid on the home of suspect Warren Mullet. His mother was informed of the police visit and authorized the search. The suspect, who was asleep at the time, was to remove a sword from under his pillow to assault a police officer on his pinky finger. Nevertheless, he was subdued before being disarmed. At the same time, his family members resisted his arrest.
During this fierce resistance, Warren Mullet was to inflict a punch to the left eye of another police officer before fleeing. The two injured policemen went to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for treatment. They both obtained three days of sick leave.
