This morning, the Special Striking Team conducted a raid at the residence of lawyer Akil Bissessur as part of an investigation into a stolen mobile phone. The Bissessur brothers along were taken to Central Barracks along with Doomila Moheeputh. Akil Bissessur was subsequently arrested and brought before Rose Hill’s Court where a provisional charge of “possession of stolen property and larceny” was lodged against him.
Lawyer Akil Bissessur was released after providing two sureties of Rs 5,000 and signing an IOU for Rs 15,000. His next Court appearance is scheduled for 10 June.
The lawyer and his partner Doomila Moheeputh were questioned by the Special Striking Team at the Line Barracks this morning in connection with the seizure of a parcel of ecstasy delivered by a fake letter carrier to Sodnac in June 2023. His summons stems from his arrest on 20 June 2023. Akil Bissessur was arrested after a controlled delivery exercise following the discovery of a parcel of ecstasy pills worth an estimated Rs 2 million in a customs warehouse.
