A ceremonial parade in the context of promotion of some 700 officers of the Mauritius Police Force (MPF), ranging from the rank of Constable to Corporal, Corporal to Sergeant, Sergeant to Sub-Inspector, Inspector to Chief Inspector, and Chief Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was held, today, at the Gymkhana, Vacoas.
The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; the Commissioner of Police, Mr Anil Kumar Dip; and other personalities were present on the occasion.
Government, the Prime Minister highlighted, is committed to fairly award dedicated Officers for their loyal exemplary services adding that he has profound respect for their selfless service to serve the MPF and the nation. He lauded the efforts of the Police Officers and extended his thankfulness to their families for their support and sacrifices so that they could deliver their duties efficiently.
The promotion exercise, he emphasised, is in line with Government’s commitment to reinforce the command structure across the MPF as well as to empower women Police Officers with equal opportunities to occupy middle and senior management positions. The MPF has recruited 100 women police constables which is a significant step in promoting gender equality in the organisation, he added.
PM stressed that unethical attitudes will spoil the image of the MPF
The Prime Minister seized the opportunity to congratulate the MPF for receiving the Gold award for the Public Excellence Award 2021 and for promoting a responsible public service.
However, he cautioned Police Officers against dereliction, complacency and mediocrity and appealed to them to be ethical and act as role model at work and in the society. He stressed that unethical attitudes will spoil the image of the MPF and highlighted that such behaviour will not be tolerated. On this score, he urged all Police Officers to be immaculate in their conduct and continue to perform their work diligently.
Government, he further reiterated, has spared no efforts to equip the MPF with latest technology so that the Police Officers can effectively deliver law and order mandates. These measures include aerial support police helicopter, new passenger aircraft, and a new forensic science laboratory.
He also spoke of societal and technological evolution that are constantly redefining the criminal landscape and stressed on the imperative to review strategies to maintain an edge on criminals. He further indicated that for the year 2015 to 2021, drugs amounting to more than Rs 14.5 billion have been seized.
Prime Minister Jugnauth expressed gratitude to the MPF for properly handling the recent social disturbances in the country by demonstrating their sense of duty towards the welfare of the population.
