Must Read

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Chemin-Grenier has been tasked with an investigation to trace two individuals who robbed a Slovakian tourist couple on the public beach of St-Felix on the afternoon of Sunday, September 11. One of the two suspects robbed them of a backpack, which was lying on the sand. The couple tried to take it in front of them, but a second man came out of nowhere and threatened them with a club. The loot taken is estimated at 1500 euros, or Rs 64,000.

It was 2pm on Sunday 11 September when a Slovakian couple who had been on holiday in Mauritius since Monday 5 September were lounging on the public beach at St Felix. At one point, an individual wearing a full-face motorbike helmet arrived and abruptly took their grey backpack. The bag contained an IPhone, two hoodies, two swimming costumes, an Apple headset and a wallet containing 200 euros. The whole thing is valued at Rs 64,000.

The couple tried to catch up with him over a distance of 20 metres, but were stopped by another man wearing a bonnet and a mask, who threatened them with a club. The two men managed to escape on a motorbike, which was parked on the other side of the road. The couple, who are staying at the Lux Hotel in Grand-Gaube, are expected to leave the country on Tuesday 13 September.

In addition, two French tourists, aged 28 and 59 respectively, reported a case of theft from their hotel room. The case was reported to the Trou d’Eau Douce police station on behalf of the two men by a police officer from the tourism police.

The two men, a company director and an engineer, arrived in Mauritius on Friday 9 September and were due to leave the country on Monday 19 September. It was between 10am on Friday 9 September, the day of their arrival, and 9pm on the evening of Sunday 11 September that these two thefts were committed without any break-in. This hotel is under the surveillance of security guards and surveillance cameras.

The young manager was robbed of Rs 13,500, while his compatriot was robbed of 100 euros (Rs 4300). The CID of the Eastern Division is working with elements of the Field Intelligence Office to catch the perpetrators of this theft.
