A 21-year-old woman has filed a complaint against her 47-year-old stepfather for rape. She says the resident of Camp Bélin N0 3, Vacoas, committed the offence in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 12. The suspect, who was arrested on Thursday afternoon, was brought before the Curepipe court on Friday September 1. He was held in police custody.
The victim, who also lives in Vacoas, reported the rape on the evening of Saturday August 12 at around 10 pm. In her complaint, she explained that she had been living with a man for a year. On Tuesday August 8, she was walking along a street in Vacoas when a white car pulled up alongside her. Her father-in-law, who was in the car, aggressively asked her to get in. She said she agreed, knowing the man’s bad temper.
He drove her to his home in Camp Bélin N0 3, Vacoas, and convinced her to stay with him and break up with her concubine or he would hurt her. On the afternoon of Friday August 11, they had consumed alcoholic beverages in the company of the forty-year-old. She says she took the opportunity to tell her father-in-law of her intention to return to her concubine. Vexed, the man then beat her up in his bedroom.
It was 2 a.m. on Saturday August 12, and she was asleep when the man came into her room and told her he wanted to have sex with her. She refused, but he forcibly removed her shorts and underwear before sexually abusing her for around twenty minutes.
That same day, at around 1 p.m., she met her partner and told him about the sexual abuse she had suffered. She asked to be examined by a forensic pathologist.
