The sexagenarian went to the L’Escalier police station shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday August 28 to report the theft. In great detail, she explained that at around 9 a.m. on the same day, she heard someone enter her yard. A man came and offered to buy the jackfruit. She replied that she wasn’t interested. Before leaving, the man asked her if she could offer him some water to drink. As soon as the sexagenarian’s back was turned, he followed her inside.
The stranger grabbed her from behind, dragged her into his bedroom and threw her forcefully onto his bed. He placed a metal object under her neck and threatened her with it. Panicked, the woman then pointed to a cupboard on which she had placed her wallet. She was beaten all over her body before the man withdrew the sum of Rs 150 that was in the wallet.
She was told not to inform the police of the incident, otherwise he would come back to harm her. Having impaired vision, the sexagenarian was unable to get a good look at the thief. She was alone at home. Her son was at work. Her yard is only fenced on three sides. The Criminal Investigation Division of Chemin Grenier was seized with this case.
