The entire Mauritius police force is on the alert to arrest a 29-year-old fisherman living in Cité Florida, Baie du Tombeau. He has been accused by his 13-year-old sister-in-law of having had sexual relations with her on several occasions. A message concerning this suspect has been circulated to officers of the Passport & Immgration Office (PIO) and the National Coast Guard (NCG), as information has been obtained that this fisherman may be leaving the country to go to Madagascar.
A policewoman assigned to the Brigade pour la Protection de la Famille (BPF) of the northern division took the teenager’s statement in the presence of her mother in the piton office in the early evening of Monday January 30. The victim, who attends a private secondary school in the capital, recounted that on December 8 at around 10.50 pm, her brother-in-law, a fisherman from Cité Florida, Baie du Tombeau, had taken her to a boarding school in Saint Joseph, Terre Rouge. It was the first time she had had a sexual relationship.
On several occasions, she explained, her sister’s husband had had sexual relations with her in December 2023 and in January of this year at the home of the man’s mother in Cité Florida, Baie du Tombeau. She told police investigators that she can identify her brother-in-law and the places where she had sex.
The teenager was subsequently taken to North Hospital, where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse was put in place. She was admitted to the ward. She is also scheduled to be examined by a forensic pathologist.
The suspect’s photo has been circulated to port and airport authorities in case the suspect attempts to leave the country. The owner of the boarding school to which the teenager was taken is expected to be concerned by this police investigation.
