Of the 16 samples taken between 13 and 19 January for sequencing at the Central Health Laboratory, 5 are Delta variant cases and 11 are Omicron variant cases, of which only 1 case was imported. The 24 positive samples taken in Rodrigues all show characteristics related to the Omicron variant.
In one week, the country has recorded 1155 positive local cases and 106 imported cases via PCR tests with 158 cases in the last 24 hours. As far as the quarantine is concerned, the communiqué mentions 41 people. Admissions to regional hospitals are 183 with 39 admissions only on 04 February. The New ENT Hospital has 1 new admission for this Friday and for the past week, the count is 12, including 1 non-vaccinated patient on ventilation and 11 on oxygen, including 8 vaccinated with 2 doses and 3 non-vaccinated.
The country has recorded 9 cases of death directly related to Covid 19 with 7 were over 60 years old and 2 under 60 years old of which 5 were unvaccinated and 8 cases of co-morbidities.
Vaccination is progressing in Mauritius as in Rodrigues where to date, more than 2205 active cases have been recorded. For the first dose, 72.6% of the population was inoculated, 66.8% for the second dose and 8,692 people received the third dose. 983,664 people were primo vaccinated, 933,686 people received the second dose and 369,460 people received their booster dose of which 223,659 at Johnson & Johnson, 134,201 at Pfizer, 8,775 at Sinopharm and 2,825 at Astra Zeneca. In the case of Pfizer’s adolescent vaccination, 70,499 adolescents received the first dose and 46,043 the second.
