A most audacious theft was perpetrated at the home of a guard of the high security prison of Melrose during the day of Wednesday, November 9. It was by removing the glass of an aluminum window that the thieves gained access to the interior of the couple’s home. They left after having taken several gold jewels, which were in a cupboard. The loot is estimated at Rs 500 000.
The 34-year-old prison guard at the Eastern High Security Prison in Melrose went to the Masque Pavé police station at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 to report a case of burglary. In his complaint, he explained that this robbery occurred between 7:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 in the absence of him and his wife.
The thieves broke into their room and stole 5 gold rings, 3 sets of jewelry, 4 pairs of bracelets, 3 pairs of earrings and 3 chains, which were in a wardrobe. The whole is worth Rs 500 000. Police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Eastern Division, and men from the Field Intelligence Office went to the scene. A sniffer dog was also taken to the location in order to lead these investigators to a lead. Forensic technicians collected evidence and took fingerprints from the couple’s home.
