Rodrigues under an electoral atmosphere
The Covid 19 news is rather taken by storm by the maintenance of the Regional Elections for this Sunday 27 February, a date postponed from February 13 for cause of increase of cases of contamination. A delegation will go to the 10th district on Thursday, which will be composed of the Electoral Commissioner, Irfan Rahman, 6 Returning Officers and about 40 officers and policemen, including elements of the SSU and SMF, to secure the ballot boxes that will be transported on the same day, Sunday 27 February. There are 31,450 voters on the island. Arrangements are being made to ensure that the voting centres are as secure as possible and that the elections in the six regions of the island are conducted under strict barrier measures, including masks, the use of hand sanitisers, physical distancing and the prohibition of gatherings at the time of voting results. These special arrangements will be in the main polling stations, namely at Mon Lubin, Grande Montagne, La Ferme, Marechal College, Antoinette Prudence Family Roman Catholic Aided School and Le Choux Collège. The aim is not to give way to unpleasant situations that can arise during elections but above all, not to further contaminate the population.
