A real explosion of Covid-19 positive cases in Rodrigues. According to the latest figures available, the autonomous island has 518 cases.
A situation that took everyone by surprise because Rodrigues had no positive cases before.
Since then, the authorities have taken the lead and put in place measures to contain the spread of the virus. Three Mauritian doctors have been dispatched, including the Director of ENT Hospital, Dr. Soobaraj Sok Appadu, National Covid Coordinator, as well as Dr. Arulen Vencatasamy and Dr. Smriti Luchoomun.
According to the ENT hospital director, 98% of the patients are asymptomatic and are in home isolation.
He also explains that the number of cases will increase before the situation stabilises afterwards, especially with the available medication.
In addition, new restrictive measures are currently in place, such as a curfew from 7pm to 6am and limited opening hours for businesses.
Doctors from Mauritius will remain in Rodrigues until the situation stabilises.
