The sister island is again in a state of health emergency this Tuesday, July 13. The curfew will be at 11 p.m. from this Wednesday, July 14. It has been reinstated due to the surge in coronavirus cases recorded, with the arrival Delta variant and already 40 confirmed cases and an insufficient level of vaccination rate.
The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron spoke to the French on the evening of Monday 12th. At the last count on 4 July, the incidence rate rose to 170 per 100,000. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the prefecture had even deplored cases of death, 10 of which were Reunionese aged between 45 and 75 years. They also have that Covid cases, hospitalizations and admissions to resuscitation unit increasing significantly. On news of the reinstatement of the Curfew, vaccination centres revealed that they had more queuing up.
Non-negligible risks
In press conference at 5 pm this 13th July, in the presence of the professor of Xavier Deparis, director of health monitoring at the Regional Health Agency of Reunion (ARS), Jacques Billant, the prefect of Reunion made an assessment of Covid in the island and “the implementation of a curfew at 11 p.m. on 14 July and for the next three weeks. The risk is non-negligible; there are 9 vaccination centres with a vaccination capacity of 40,000 per day. I invite the people of Reunion to make their appointments and to be vaccinated for the safety of all reunion islanders.” He also reiterated the importance of being tested.
Nevertheless, the bars and restaurants will be allowed to offer an evening service. Other businesses may suffer or other businesses may extend their opening hours. Regarding travellers, PCR and salivary tests will be done at the airport and the Imperative Reasons may not change with the state of emergency
Mandatory vaccine and Health pass, nearly!
The vaccine becomes Mandatory for hospital personnel, “From September 15, if you are a hospital personnel and you are not vaccinated, you will no longer be able to work and you will no longer be paid.” warned Emmanuel Macron. The health pass also becomes almost mandatory, since it will be requested on the territory, as from July 21, in bars, restaurants, shopping centres, hospitals, cinemas, theatres, parks, casinos, elderly homes, medical-social establishments, planes, among other crowded public places, as much to employees and various staff as visitors and users!
During his speech, the French president did not fail to say: “It is a simple equation: the more we vaccinate, the less space we will leave for the virus to spread, the more we will avoid hospitalizations and other mutations of the virus“. He added “To protect ourselves and for our unity, we must go towards the vaccination of all French people because it is the only way to a comeback to normal life“.
