Retroactive Wage Increase For Airport Employees

Must Read

As a result of negotiations between the trade unionists and the Managing Committee of the relevant bodies, the airport workers have received a pay rise of about 12.4% with retrospective effect. Several other trade unionists, Deepak Benydin, who acted as a negotiator on behalf of the airport workers, made it clear that the negotiations started with their employer last December. We have fought a long battle and struggle to get a fair and deserving increase,” he said.

The unionist also pointed out that the employees of these two organisations will get a salary increase of about 12.4% and an average increase of 10.2% in their allowances. This decision was taken at a special meeting of the Airports of Mauritius Ltd Employees Union.

For his part, AMLEU president Netraj Sewduth, focusing on refunds, stressed that his organisation’s employees will receive their 21 months’ retroactive compensation in two instalments.  “They will get their salary compensation from the beginning of this month and the compensation for allowances towards the end of September,” said the unionist. The trade unionist added that the payment of the Generalized Social Contribution (CSG) will now be paid by the employer from this month. “We are fully satisfied with the salary report after a long struggle,” he said.

On the other hand, Netraj Sewduth, arguing that Prakash Maunthoora and the Officer-in-Charge of his organisation have done a lot for the airport workers, appealed to Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and the concerned authorities to appoint Seeven Chellen as Chief Executive Officer of Airports Limited. “Seeven Chellen has extensive experience in the aviation industry and has held senior positions in the sector. We have no doubt that he will live up to the expectations and aspirations of the authorities concerned and the workers at the airport,” he concluded.
