Using his prerogatives, the Director of Public Prosecutions has asked the magistrate of the District Court of Port-Louis to investigate the circumstances under which the Slovak Peter Uricek left the territory of Mauritius on 26 April 2022. The magistrate will also have to determine if at any time an offence was committed.
The office of the DPP issued a statement this afternoon. The document points out that its decision to ask the Port Louis court magistrate to conduct an investigation stem from the fact, first, that Judge Iqbal Maghooa referred the entire matter of Peter Uricek’s departure from the country to the DPP’s office. The decision also stems from the content of the statement from the Prime Minister’s office that Peter Uricek was never extradited or deported, but that he was deprived of his residency status and that the police were obstructed in handing over Peter Uricek to the Slovak authorities.
