In The UK, Boris Johnson Defeated In Several Tory Strongholds In London

Must Read

According to the first results, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party was defeated in several London districts historically won by the Tories. Outside the capital, however, Labour does not seem to be benefiting from the defeat of the ruling party.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said his party had reached a “turning point” and was “back on track” to succeed in the next general election.

Some Tory council leaders criticized Boris Johnson.

But the Tories said Labour lacked the “momentum” across the country to regain power after more than a decade.

The Lib Dems did well, winning 59 councillors and taking Hull City Council from labour.

With just under half the local elections in England over, the Tories are set to lose about 250 councillor seats in total, according to polling expert Sir John Curtice.

The full results – as well as those for councils in Scotland and Wales and the Northern Ireland Assembly – will be announced later on Friday and Saturday.

Britons are sending a stern warning to Boris Johnson as the Conservative majority in the House of Commons reaches the halfway point of its term. According to the first results announced on Friday, May 6, the Conservative party is losing key London councils in these local elections, which are a test for the Prime Minister.
