In the first edition of the Supreme Court Newsletter, published this week, Rehana Mungly Gulbul, the Chief Justice, points out that discussions have already begun on integrating technology into the judicial system. She said that remote hearings, by video, will be a reality, especially for urgent cases before a judge in chambers.
She explained that hearings have already been held in virtual mode during Covid 19. However, she would like to see a greater transition to e-judiciary.
The Chief Judge explains that over the next few years, new technologies such as artificial intelligence will bring new challenges and opportunities. So, after discussions with the parties concerned, the future will be remote hearings.
They are now a reality … where all interactions with lawyers, including pleadings, are done live by video. Procedures have been effective.
Rules on remote hearings for judges in chambers were established during the Covid 19 pandemic. They have already been established by the Chief Judge, following consultations with the Rules Committee.
