The recount at No. 19 between Ivan Collendavello and Jenny Adebiro was the focus of the MSM’s weekly press conference, held this Friday, February 4, at the Sun Trust building. Maneesh Gobin said that he finds it disgusting how easily they spit on the Electoral Commission and the Electoral Supervisory Commission.
The Mauves’ leader, Paul Raymond Bérenger, was the most targeted during this exchange with the press. The secretary general of the MSM argued that the latter could not have fallen lower than he is now. Maneesh Gobin was referring not only to the double defeat of the MMM leader’s running mate in the recount, but also to the latter’s continuous criticism of the electoral institutions when the time came for the verdict.
The Secretary General of the MSM also emphasized that these two institutions have made the pride and reputation of Mauritius for many years. He said that our democratic system relies on these two institutions. So, for the Minister, when politicians and the press attack these institutions, they are attacking the country and democracy at the same time.
For the Minister of Infrastructure, Bobby Hurreeram Paul Berenger is now only concerned about his daughter, to whom he wants to hand over the party’s torch. He pointed out that the leader of the mauves was not even present to support Jenny Adebiro during the recount. To those who question the integrity of the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Commissioner, Bobby Hurreera says they must learn from this ʹrecountʹ and stop throwing mud at the country’s institutions. He recalled that the Electoral Commissioner was appointed by the Judicial and Legal Service Commission and not by the government.
