Recent Incidents Are Just A Political Ploy By The Reds – Says Bobby Hurreeram

Must Read

The MSM trio of Joe Lesjongard, Bobby Hurreeram and Anjiv Ramdany held a press conference at the Sun Trust HQ in Port Louis on Saturday 16 April 2022. The topics discussed were the postponement of the municipal elections, the health situation in the country, the role of a section of the press, the “political machinations” of the Labour Party (PTr).

“The incidents that occurred in front of the CAB office in Plaine-Magnien and those that took place in the car park of a supermarket in Vacoas during a radio broadcast are not isolated cases. It is a political machination orchestrated by the PTr”. This is what the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Bobby Hurreeram, said.

The Public Infrastructure Minister also criticised PTr MP Osman Mahomed, who he said is against the construction of a highway in a specific constituency. “Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the government has decided to continue with development work across the country. Recently, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a flyover, which will soon be built at the Quay. This development project will help solve the problem of traffic congestion in the capital. (…) I note that MP Osman Mahomed is against the construction of a new highway in a specific area. Don’t constituencies 8, 9, 10 and 11 deserve this kind of development?

For his part, MSM President Joe Lesjongard dwelt at length on the postponement of the municipal elections for next year. He said that this is not the first time that municipal elections have been postponed, taking the 2003 and 2011 elections as examples. “In the past, all political parties, whether it is the MSM, MMM, PMSD or PTr, have had to postpone municipal elections in order to implement certain laws in Parliament. In the current situation, the situation is much more serious, especially when it comes to protecting the population against the Covid 19 pandemic. For us in government, the health of the population comes first. This is why we were forced to postpone the municipal elections until next year.

On the other hand, the Minister of Tourism gave an overview of the health situation in the country. “In the last two weeks, we have noticed a relaxation among the population. As a result, the number of positive patients admitted to our regional health centres and to the ENT has increased considerably. Most Covid patients are not vaccinated or are ‘partially vaccinated’. Hence his call to the population aged 18-59 with co-morbidities such as diabetes, obesity and cancer, among others, as well as the elderly to take their second booster dose to protect themselves against Covid-19.
