For the Attorney General, Navin Ramgoolam’s decision to withdraw his election petition has nothing to do with Suren Dayal’s decision to seek the Privy Council to contest the rejection of his own electoral petition. For Maneesh Gobin, like Pravind Jugnauth said yesterday, the leader of the Labour Party was afraid of cross-examination once in the box. For him, the lawyers of the opposing parties were “meticulously prepared” for the cross-examination of the former Prime Minister. One of these lawyers, added Maneesh Gobin at the MSM press conference yesterday, is Ivan Collendavelloo. “He backed down because he knew he was going to suffer in the box. It’s not easy to support the accusations he made. He would not have been able to sustain such an exercise,” said the Attorney General.
Maneesh Gobin denounced Navin Ramgoolam who, according to him, has made numerous accusations and is backing down when it comes to supporting them in court. He recalled that the case will be called this Monday. It is there, he said, that Navin Ramgoolam’s lawyers will make a motion to withdraw the election petition. “But you shouldn’t believe what he says in his statement. In my opinion, he knew that he had no chance of winning this case. There is no comparison between his petition and Suren Dayal’s. He is just a bag of wind,” he said.
