Two individuals dragged a woman near the Freddy Desveaux football pitch in Bain des Dames on the evening of Wednesday 29 November before sexually abusing her. The 39-year-old mentally handicapped victim went to the local police station to lodge a complaint.
According to the woman, who lives in Bain des Dames, she went out of her house to buy cigarettes on the evening of Wednesday 29 November at a tobacconist’s in the neighbourhood. At one point she says she was accosted by two men. They allegedly dragged her near the Freddy Desveaux football pitch behind the Central Electricity Board station in Fort Victoria, where she was raped in turn while being restrained on the grass.
She says she was also roughed up. As soon as she arrived home, she confided in her husband about her misadventure. They subsequently went to the Bain des Dames police station to lodge a complaint. Her statement could not be recorded, however, as she was under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where she was admitted under the protocol for victims of sexual abuse.
Mentally disabled, she is undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis. She bears bruises on the exposed part of her body.
Footage from the Safe City surveillance cameras near the football pitch was viewed. No abnormalities were observed.
