The provisional sedition charge against Ivor Tan Yan, Mansa Daby, Shane Runnoo and Hans Sirakhun was struck out this Monday. This follows a motion put forward by their lawyer during the last audience. The four were arrested by the police on Sunday 3 March 2024 while conducting an awareness campaign in Glen Park, Vacoas, to condemn the exploitation and export of monkeys from Mauritius to laboratories abroad. It was World Wildlife Day. After spending the night in detention, they appeared before the Curepipe court the following day and were released on bail after each paying a sum of Rs 10,000 and signing an IOU for Rs 50,000. The case was called before the Curepipe court this morning. The representative of the DPP’s office did not object to the defence’s request. As a result, the sedition charge against the four activists was dropped.
