Priest Catches Man In Attempted Robbery

In the late afternoon of Thursday February 8, the priest officiating at the kovil on rue Farquhar, Port-Louis caught an individual stealing money from a prayer tray placed on the donation box. The 26-year-old priest immediately rushed towards the man, grabbing him by the collar and taking the money from his right hand. The police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect. The suspect, Jean Patrick Luckeeram, who lives in La Caverne, Vacoas, turned 40 on Friday February 9.

Patrick Luckeeram was brought before the Port Louis court on his birthday, Friday February 9. The priest was officiating a prayer service on the afternoon of Thursday February 8 when he caught a man stealing money from a prayer tray on top of a donation box in this kovil.

He immediately rushed towards the man, grabbed him by the collar and seized the money in his right hand. Meanwhile, the Trou Fanfaron police station, less than twenty meters away, was alerted and dispatched officers to the kovil to arrest the suspect.

Patrick Luckeeram was placed in a cell at the Piton detention center. On Friday morning, February 9, he was brought before the Port Louis court on a provisional charge of attempted theft.
