As part of the 93rd anniversary of the birth of Sir Anerood Jugnauth and the 40 years of existence of the MSM on the political scene, the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, yesterday afternoon, participated in the inauguration of green space and the unveiling of a bust of Sir SAJ at Gandhi Square in Rampart River in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, Steve Obeegadoo, several Ministers, PPS, MPs, Chairman of the Rampart River District Council, Prembhoodas Ellayah, agents, supporters and sympathizers of the MSM.
“SAJ remains an idol and an inspiration for the majority of the population and it is a proud moment to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the MSM, which was founded on April 8, 1983, by SAJ and his team to modernize and transform the country. SAJ who is an exemplary person, has left a legacy and has spent 60 years of his life in politics and in the service of the country and the people,” he added.
Pravind Jugnauth went back over to their father’s career, he spoke of all his achievements, be it in the economy, society, and equality. He also spoke about the Chagos. He also took a dig at his opponents. He returned to the period 1982-83. “There were differences between SAJ as PM and Paul Bérenger. The country was facing economic difficulties. The IMF and the World Bank told us that we had to make sacrifices. But SAJ did not want to continue to alienate the population while some said we should be prepared to eat cassava and potatoes,” he said. At another point. He targeted Navin Ramgoolam. “In 1995, people wanted to try something else. Mauritians tried it… with a young man from London. He had style apparently. But what is his record?” Pravind Jugnauth asked. He added that the population should be able to compare.
