The Prime Minister will leave the country on Friday to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II before heading to New York. Pravind Jugnauth will attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will stay there for a few days. The PM will be accompanied by the Head of the Public Service and Cabinet Secretary Nayen Koomar Ballah. The general debate with interventions by heads of state and government will be held from Tuesday 20 September to Monday 26 September 2022.
While in New York, the Prime Minister will have bilateral working sessions with leaders of friendly countries. The Chagos issue will again be on the agenda during the meeting.
In the absence of the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, who left for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II before his mission to New York, and that of the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Steve Obeegadoo (in France at the Top Résa trade show) and Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun (in Canada), it is the Minister of Local Government, Dr. Anwar Husnoo, who will be called upon as of this Saturday, September 17, to occupy the post of acting Prime Minister, that is to say for at least 48 hours, unless there is a last minute change.
