Out of 301 voters, 295 voted against the latest Human Resources Development Plan (HRDP) report of the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA). The vote was held last Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Harbour Master’s Office and was organised by the Mauritius Ports Authority Maritime and Other Staff Union.
The union is literally against the recommendations of the report, mainly concerning the salary revisions and the imposed working conditions.
According to Ashok Subron, union negotiator and GWF representative, these proposals are totally unacceptable. For example, employees at the lower end of the scale will get an increase of Rs165, while the top earners will get an increase of nearly Rs10,000.
For the union, the management must apply the law and follow the Collective Bargaining. It says that the management should take into consideration the result of the vote of the MPA employees.
The union, which also says it is following administrative procedures to the letter, hopes that the MPA management will come up with better arrangements.
