In a documentary, Pope Francis lauded the benefits of sex and called it “one of the most beautiful things” that God has given to people.
The 86-year-old pope made the comment in the Disney+ film “The Pope Answers,” which documents a conversation he had with 10 Spanish-speaking youth, in their early 20s, from around the world last year in Rome.
The film documents a gathering in Rome between the head of the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics and these youth. The range of subjects they questioned pope are faced by youth in their early ages. They are some of the most concerning aspects of their lives.
These range from subjects, such as sex abuse in the Catholic Church, LGBT rights, abortion, the porn business, and sex. The Pope is confronted by a wide range of direct inquiries and challenges, touching personal accounts, and forthright affirmations.
In the documentary, he declared that “sex is one of the beautiful things that God has given to the human person.”
“To express yourself sexually is a richness.” Referring to masturbation, he said, “so anything that detracts from real sexual expression lessens you and depletes this richness.”
One of the gentler inquiries of the four-hour discussion comes from participant Celia: “Do you know Tinder?” The pope responded, “I don’t know how to use it, It’s funny, young people have an eagerness to meet and that’s a good thing.”
Additionally, he was questioned if he understood what a “non-binary person” is, and he responded in the affirmative. He emphasised once more the need for the Catholic Church to embrace LGBT persons. “All persons are the children of God, all persons. God does not reject anybody, God is a father. And I have no right to expel anyone from the Church,” he said.
“All persons are the children of God, all persons. God does not reject anybody, God is a father. And I have no right to expel anyone from the Church,” the Pope declared.
Regarding abortion, Pope said that while the practice is still wrong, priests should be “merciful” to mothers who have chosen to abort their children.
“It’s good to call things by their name. It is one thing to accompany the person who had one (abortion), quite another to justify the act,” he said supporting his statement.
He responds to the numerous queries from the young people between the ages of 20 and 25.
‘The Pope Answers’ is a brand new original Spanish documentary which released on Hulu, a popular streaming platform, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Màrius Sanchez and Jordi Évole are the director-duo of the documentary.
