What the Opposition in Rodrigues is unable to build a few weeks before the regional elections, the Opposition in Mauritius is about to succeed. That is, the unification of the opposition parties.
It is in this context that on Monday, January 17, the leader of the opposition, Xavier-Luc Duval and Arvin Boolell, leader of the Labour Party in parliament, met. At this stage, we can certainly not talk about a political alliance, but to find solid arguments and lay the foundations for an agreement between the platform of Hope, composed of the PMSD, the MMM, the Mauritian Rally of Nando Bodha, and the Reform Party of Roshi Bhadain.
Little has transpired from this meeting. However, according to our information, the discussion focused on the possible return of Arvin Boolell as leader of the opposition. This, according to information, could be accepted by the PMSD and the MMM with certain conditions.
Indeed, the MMM could regain the position of Whip of the Opposition while the PMSD takes the chair of the Public Account Committee.
These conditions will have to be either accepted or rejected by the Reds, mainly by Navin Ramgoolam.
The Reds should know their decision soon.
