A constable living in the village of Plaine des Papayes was admitted to the north hospital ward in the early hours of Thursday 20 July following an assault. The assault took place on La Cuvette beach in Grand-Baie. Following a request, police officers from the Grand Baie police station went to the beach to transport the injured man to hospital. The police officer declined to give a statement regarding the circumstances of his attack.
At 2.15am on Thursday 20 July, police officers from Grand Baie police station went to the public beach to respond to a request concerning a case of assault. The victim was a police officer assigned to a Metropolitan Police station in the northern division. After receiving treatment, the officer was admitted to the ward.
He did not wish to give a statement as he was in pain. He said he would give his statement at a later date. On the morning of Wednesday 19 July, this officer, who was due to work his first shift, informed the police station where he works that he was unwell. He has only four years’ service in the police force.
