Shakeel Mohamed has been questioned at length at the office of the Major Crime Investigation Team last Tuesday. The team of Superintendent Ghoora wanted to know if he would have influenced the suspect to plead innocence while this inhabitant of a suburb of the capital had confessed his involvement in the death of Jean Desveaux Augustin in Karo-Kalyptis. Shakeel Mohamed rejected the allegations made against him and claimed that he had never discussed such a move with his client.
He is accused of having had a meeting with a client in the Pamplemousses region on 11 June 2021. According to the Police, the objective of this meeting was to change the story which the client had given to the Police. This has been refuted by the lawyer. He recalled that on that particular day, he was in Parliament to attend the presentation of the budget and had then participated in a radio program on Top FM.
Me Mohamed denounces the way the Police do things. According to him, the Police want to have access to his phone, among other things.
“I don’t feel safe in this country”, says Shakeel Mohamed as he left the Central Barracks yesterday…
The lawyer finds it strange that the invitation for his convocation at the Central CID came the day after Bruneau Laurette’s release on parole.
As a reminder, he is the activist’s lawyer and had made known the threats he had received while Bruneau Laurette was still in detention.
For Shakeel Mohamed, Mauritius is no longer a democratic country and he said that he fears for his safety.
