Despite the best efforts of the PMO and the Indian High Commission, Navin Ramgoolam was unable to board the Specially Advanced Cargo Flight fitted out for him and his companions. According to Dr Farhad Aumeer, his oxygen requirement was too high for such a flight as the severity of his affected lungs. Pravind Jugnauth estimates Navin Ramgoolam is not able to travel in his present condition.
The Prime Minister expressed his and his government’s support for his political rival. “We are giving him all the assistance and support he needs. He wished to receive further treatment in India. Obviously, we are doing what we can to facilitate this move. This is a very difficult time for him and his family. We express our solidarity and wish him a speedy recovery,” he said at a promotion exercise for 400 corporals to the rank of police sergeant at Central Barracks.
The PMO has been closely monitoring the condition of the Reds’ leader since his admission to the Isolation Ward at Welkin Hospital. Despite all this the Reds’ leader was unable to move, the proceedings resulted in the search for an Air Ambulance from South Africa. He was to reach the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on the recommendation of his doctors
Expressing his support to Veena Ramgoolm and the family of the former Prime Minister at this difficult time, Pravind Jugnauth said, “As of announced, he does not seem to be able to move. We are here as a government to give him every support. We wish him a good recovery and as soon as possible.
