It was during the Private Notice Question. The Prime Minister announced four measures designed to help the population fighting against the hike in the prices of various commodities. Firstly, he said that there would be a review of prices and subsidies on already controlled products. This decision was taken following consultations with importers and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition, the mark-up profit on the 15 most commonly used drugs in Mauritius will be reduced. Moreover, a ministerial committee has been set up to study other measures. And finally, subsidies on rice will be adjusted to maintain prices. Pravind Jugnauth also said that petrol should have cost Rs 73.93 and diesel Rs 66.90 today. But this is not the case as the Petroleum Pricing Committee can only apply a maximum increase of 10%. He also mentioned the subsidies on rice and flour.
