On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Peros Banhos launch ceremony was held in front of a crowd at the Port-Louis Cruise Terminal. Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and his wife, Kobita Jugnauth gave a tour of the vessel. Many representatives of the many religious communities throughout the nation also led prayer sessions.
The Chinese shipyard Huanghai Shipbuilding Company Ltd. built Peros Banhos, which will be greeted with a customary water salute. Along with the leaders of the many religions on the island, prayers will be said on the Port Mathurin quay. Mauritius Shipping Corporation received the 8,200-ton multifunctional ship, which was designed by Huanghai Shipbuilding Co Ltd, a Chinese shipping company, in December of last year. It will be utilised for logistics and coastal shipping between Mauritius and Rodrigues as well as Mauritius and Agaléga. It measures 115.70 metres long and 20 metres wide.
