Penalties: 444 By The Traffic Branch

The police force will have issued several hundred fines during the three days of public holidays. The Traffic Branch alone has checked 2144 vehicles and these are only figures compiled as of 3rd January at 6am.

Of the 2144 vehicles checked, the Traffic Branch served 444 different fines where we highlight 146 motorists fined for excess speeding, 6 for drunk driving and 19 for not wearing a face mask in the car,” says Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ashok Mathur, adding that this concerns only his department.

According to the register of the Police Press Office, for 1st and 2nd January, Inspector Siva Soopramanien Coothen tells us that “312 penalties were issued for not wearing a mask, including 81 on the first and 231 on the second. For speed limit penalties, 84 on the 1st January and 112 on the 2nd January. 2 people were fined for picnic on the beach at Flic en Flac under the charge of not respecting the restrictive measures of Covid 19. The citizen has to be more responsible while the policemen have to do their job“.

As for the number of road victims for 2021, the police figures show 107 on 30th December, 23 less than on 30th December 2020, which was 130.
