Suleiman Mamode, 50 years old resident of Raffray Parcel, Pailles was killed in an accident on the M1 highway at Camp Chapelon, Pailles. Two vehicles, including a 2×4 and a car were involved in this accident which occurred on the evening of Friday, March 10. The victim was crossing the highway at the footbridge when he was hit by these two vehicles. The body of this man was transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis to be autopsied after being identified this Saturday morning, March 11.
It was around 10 pm that this accident occurred on the lane of this highway leading to the direction of Bagatelle. At a certain moment a pedestrian who was crossing this lane was hit by a 2×4 of the brand Mitsubishi before being hit by a car of the brand Toyota. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene. The doctor on board unfortunately had to declare the death of the injured person.
His body was transported to the morgue of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital for an autopsy. This was done during the day on Saturday, March 11 by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer who attributed the death to multiple injuries. The driver of the 2×4, a 33 year old planter, living in Ripailles, St. Pierre and the driver of the Toyota, a 29 year old Quatrebornais who works as a Fleet Leader in a company were submitted to an alcohol test. This one proved to be negative.
Firemen from the capital were sent to the scene of the accident to clean up this part of the road after the two vehicles and the corpse were removed. The two drivers were released on parole after giving their statements on the evening of Friday, March 10.
An investigation has been initiated at the Pailles police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident. The investigators will then decide on the responsibility of these two drivers.
