Zubeyr Hidayatouyllah Abdoolah, 32, was given a nine-month prison sentence by the magistrate of the Pamplemousses court on Monday June 3 for stealing a wallet containing the sum of Rs 10,000. This painter from 9th Mile, Triolet pleaded guilty.
Zubeyr Abdoollah was accused of stealing a wallet containing the sum of Rs 10,000 in various denominations from the home of a resident of Camp Maraz, Plaine des Papayes. The 52-year-old had reported the theft to her village police station on the afternoon of Sunday June 2.
In her complaint, the fifty-something woman explained that the theft had been committed between Monday May 27 and 2 p.m. on Sunday June 2. She stated that she suspected Zubeyr Abdoollah as the perpetrator of the theft.
At 6 a.m. on Monday June 3, elements of the Pamplemousses Criminal Investigation Division (CID) set up a police operation at the suspect’s home in 9ème Mile, Triolet. Zubeyr Abdoollah was arrested and taken to the CID office. Subjected to close questioning, he soon confessed to the crime. After stealing the wallet, he withdrew all the money it contained before disposing of it near the Plaine des Papayes cemetery.
A search was carried out to find the wallet, but to no avail. On the same day, his trial was heard before the Pamplemousses court. Zubeyr Abdoollah pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine months in prison. The court also imposed a condition that he behave himself for a period of nine months after his release.
